Weekend Gluttony

Starting with Friday night:

#Meateasy

It probably wasn't the best idea to go on the penultimate night but despite the 3 hour wait (!) the food was amazing; the best so far.  I really hope this place is reincarnated somewhere nearby very soon.

Saturday:

Cinnamon Grahams

Smoked Applewood on Moroccan Spiced Crackers

I couldn't wait for lunch.

Half a Sausage Man Bratwurst

The best hotdogs in South East London.  It's a shame there's nowhere nice to sit and eat them.

Dinner was at Meze Mangal in Lewisham:

Taramasalata and Calamari

Halloumi and Dolmades

Beyti Kofte

Really good food, friendly service and very reasonably priced (apologies if I've used the wrong words for the above dishes).

We made a detour to the pub and came home with:

Morleys Chicken Burger

Need I say more?

Sunday:

Bacon Sandwich

Nachos

Fruit Salad

My body was craving vitamin C...

Lamb Kleftiko with Mash

Great recipe from Olive Magazine; bung all the ingredients in a pot for a couple of hours, add some feta and eat.

Half a Homemade Coconut Brownie

Sausage Roll

C made these for work.  I had to try them to make sure they were edible obviously...

Today:

Pret Smoked Salmon and Egg Baguette

Ancho Chicken Quesadilla from Picante Mexican Grill

My Zumba class tonight is desperately needed!

Friday 15 April 2011

Final countdown to #MEATEASY

There's only a few more hours until I get my final Meateasy and I'm both excited and saddened by the event.  I can't wait to eat it but, as this is the penultimate night in its current location, I'm worried that this will be my last taste of burger heaven.  Fingers crossed it will be reincarnated at another venue nearby.

Since Tuesday morning I have eaten:

Onion Bagel with Parma Ham, Tomato, Mustard and Mayo

Duck Breast, Dauphinoise and Baby Leeks

The price of duck seems to have gone up considerably so this may feature less in my blog in future.  It probably won't though as I love it too much.

2x Milk Chocolate Rich Tea Biscuits

Wednesday:

Special K

Has anyone ever tried the Special K diet?  As far as I can work out it must be a diet of misery.  One bowl of this makes me want to eat my own hand half an hour afterwards.  If I ate the two bowls a day and a 'proper' meal as suggested on the diet I would literally fade away.  Literally.  Who wants to wear red one-piece swimsuits and middle-aged boot cut jeans anyway...

Tomato and Mozzarella Salad

Fiorentina Pizza

Both from Pizza Express on the £10 Favourites Menu.  I love a pizza with a soft yolked egg on top-it's like a self saucing pudding; but a pizza obviously.

My Second Pavlova

I made this to celebrate someone's engagement.  Tricky to take into work as I had to take it all in separately and make it up last minute but it turned out well in the end.  My new signature pud!

Pasturma

We both ate too much in the day and couldn't be bothered to cook in the evening so had this using the 4 yolks left from the pavlova plus 2 extra whole eggs.  Cholesterol central.  It wasn't the right texture without the whites either.  Never again.

Thursday:

Weetabix x 2

I got this from the work canteen.  Why are these packaged individually?  Surely the rule is always two per serving?

Gregg's Ham Roll (plus packet of French Fries and a Fig Roll)

Did the job but nothing to write home about.

Blacksticks Blue on Ryvita

I think these were both out of date.  Is there a difference between normal blue cheese mould and new 'out-of-date' mould?  I have decided there isn't.

Asparagus Risotto

I'm still teaching myself to like risotto and this may have done it for me!  Got the recipe from Olive Magazine and it was gorgeous and simple to make.  I'll definitely be making this again whilst asparagus season runs.  We didn't even add crispy pancetta on the top to stop it from being vegetarian.

Cadbury's Creme Egg

Today:

Golden Grahams

Tuna and Olive Sandwich with Wotsits

As you can see, I've been pretty good today.  I even did a Davina workout.  This is all in preparation for the burger-fest tonight.  Hopefully it won't be too busy (I should be so lucky).

Tuesday 12 April 2011

It's been a long time...

...and in that time I've eaten a lot of bad things.  The shame.  That whole thing about eating salads when the weather's nice does not apply to me.  Starting with Thursday morning:

Pasturma

Scallops and Chorizo with Homemade Guacamole on Toasted Panini

I was working from home so I pushed the boat out.  I've made variations of this in the past few months but the chorizo makes this one the best.

Penny Sweets

These cost more than a penny each.  We couldn't decide whether the ones on the left are dummies or keys...

Lasagne

Rhubarb and Custard Cake

Friday was a bad food day, starting with Golden Grahams followed by:

Falafel from Borough Market

A rare vegetarian meal for me.

Bodeans Soho Special

Hot Buffalo Wings

I was looking forward to this due to my carnivorous nature but was disappointed for a couple of reasons.  Firstly, you can't book at the Soho branch so it was impossible to get a table on a Friday night in the restaurant section.  This meant that we had to hover around people in the upstairs 'deli' section until they finished.  I hate doing it and I hate it when other people hover around me.

When we finally got a table I had the above.  I reckon the food here is good but I made the ultimate mistake and ordered the wrong thing.  The pulled pork had a nice tender texture but it was all too sweet. Sweet and meat is not a good combo for me.  The chips were gorgeous, I love gherkins and the chicken wings were addictive (despite the fact they burnt my lips off) but the main event wasn't great for me.  Perhaps I'll give it another go on a quieter night.

On the way home from a night of karaoke we made the taxi driver stop at KFC:

Fillet Tower Burger

Amazing.

Saturday:

Peanut Butter on Toast

I got bored half way through so added jam to the second half.

It was a lovely day so we bought stuff for a picnic:

Picnic Stuff

We didn't do a very good job here due to our fuzzy headedness but sitting in the sun with a chicken tikka samosa isn't the worst way to spend an afternoon...

EXP Chinese Takeaway

Too tired to cook.

Sunday:

Full English Breakfast

We grilled and poached our breakfast so it wasn't as bad as it could have been.  We even had black pudding, which I'm sure is unhealthy no matter how you cook it.

Choc Nut Cone

Cold Chow Mein

For dinner we went to The Talbot in Brockley and had:

Roast Chicken

Very good except there was not enough cauliflower in my cauliflower cheese.

Apple Tartin

I shared this.  It made me feel better about myself.

Yesterday:

Fruit and Fibre

M&S Chicken Salad Sandwich

Plus a packet of Quavers.

2x Fig Rolls

I went to Zumba to burn off all (maybe a quarter) of what I ate at the weekend and came home to a healthy dinner of:

Japanese Prawn Noodle Soup

M&S Potato Ball Things and Chicken Things

Today:

Toast with Marmite and Honey (not together obviously)

Onion Bagel with Parma Ham, Tomato, Mayo and Mustard

So we have established in this mammoth blog that I am a barbarian.  I must change my ways...
